Radon Testing Your Home
Every home has radon. The only way to know if the home has a low enough radon level to safely live in it, is to have it tested. Radon is a gas that is colorless, tasteless and odorless. It is the most dense gas known to man. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths claiming over 25,000 lives per year. Second hand smoke is third. Radon gas is caused by the breakdown of uranium under ground. The gas is in the air we breathe outside.
Facts on Radon
Radon gas is caused by the breakdown of uranium under ground. The gas is in the air we breathe outside. Radon gas is measured in picoCurries per liter of air pCi /L. The EPA estimates the outside air to be a safe level of .05 pCi /L. The EPA also estimates the average home to have levels between 1.3 to 1.5 pCi /L. The EPA says these are safe levels and requires a home to be remediated of radon gas, if the home has a radon level of 4.0 pCi /L of higher.
